Who are you?
Satu Soranummi
What do you do at AtoZ and how long have you been an #AtoZtype?
I’ve been working as an application tester at AtoZ for four and a half years, ensuring quality assurance throughout different testing phases in customer projects.
How did you end up at AtoZ?
I found out about the tester position through a friend of a friend, who happened to be an #AtoZtype. My friend had only heard good things about AtoZ as a company and told me I should apply there based on her friend’s recommendation. Also, one of my former colleagues had just joined AtoZ, which sparked my interest even more.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is that every day is different, and I get to work on interesting testing tasks. I want to make sure that the applications I test are of high quality and exceed users’ expectations. My workdays include plenty of brainstorming, problem-solving, and helping out teammates and stakeholders. My job is both motivating and rewarding—especially when I find a solution to a tricky problem or help a colleague move forward.
Share a technical tip or something in your field that currently excites you.
I’ve long been interested in artificial intelligence and how it could be used to support testing.
If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
I’d be a happiness generator—I’d love to spread happiness and good vibes around me.
What skill would you like to learn next?
In my work, I’d like to learn more about test automation, especially how to utilize AI to support it.
What song describes your life right now?
I enjoy many kinds of music and have lots of favorite songs, but I often find myself humming Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, Annie Lennox’s There Must Be an Angel, or Coldplay’s Viva la Vida.
If you could spend a day with anyone, who would it be and why?
Right now, I’m working with my young 2-year-old colt to train him into a safe future riding horse. I’m inspired by Tristan Tucker, whose TRT Method focuses on creating confident and happy horses. I’d love to talk with him about how to solve different kinds of horse-related challenges.
What’s the best thing about AtoZ?
The best thing about AtoZ is the open company culture and the fair, friendly colleagues—the #AtoZtypes. We also have some great benefits; for example, the additional days off earned by years of service are fantastic. Since I work at the client’s site rather than at the AtoZ office, I really appreciate the weekly check-ins with an AtoZ colleague and the fact that we have a support person we can reach out to whenever needed.
Tell us a surprising fact about yourself that others might not know.
Outside of my workday, I spend the other half of my time taking care of animals on my farm. It’s a great contrast to office work to put on rubber boots and head out to do outdoor chores—like shoveling horse manure!
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I take care of my horses, ride them both in the arena and out in nature, and stay fit by hiking and Nordic walking in the forest. At our cottage, I enjoy renovating buildings, as well as relaxing in the sauna and swimming. I also practice yoga, which helps me stay fit and build resilience for work life.
If you were an animal, what would you be and why?
If I were an animal, I’d definitely be a horse. My horses have already shaped and “trained” me to be quite horse-like—I’m observant of my surroundings and people, and I react quickly when needed. :)
Finally, share your funniest memory from AtoZ.
Since I don’t work at the AtoZ office, the funniest moments with AtoZ colleagues have been at our social events. We’ve had great summer parties, and I’ve especially enjoyed our cultural adventures—like the ghost walk in Tampere, where we heard stories about the city’s history and ghosts, as well as our theater visits and performances.
